FITZGERALD, Ga. (AP) — Marcee Gray, 43, has been indicted for allegedly exploiting an elderly person and other offenses in Ben Hill County, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. This indictment concerns a domestic incident that reportedly took place last year and appears to be unrelated to the tragic school shootings involving her son.
Gray is the mother of Colt Gray, a 14-year-old who faces serious charges, including murder, after a tragic event at Apalachee High School on Sept. 4. Authorities claim that Colt brought an assault-style rifle to school, resulting in the deaths of two students and two teachers, and injuring nine others during morning classes. Colt turned himself in to police following the incident.
According to reports, the indictment against Marcee Gray references a troubling incident from late last year. On Nov. 4, her 74-year-old mother reported to the police that Marcee had taken her phone, restrained her to a chair with tape, and left her there for nearly a whole day. Following this, Marcee traveled to Barrow County to confront her ex-husband, who was with their son and two other children at the time.
Further investigation revealed that Marcee Gray was arrested in Barrow County on Nov. 6, just two days after her mother was found. She subsequently pleaded guilty to charges including criminal trespassing and using a license plate to conceal her vehicle’s identity, resulting in a 45-day jail sentence.
In the wake of the shootings, Marcee Gray stated that she had called the school that morning, alerting staff after receiving a troubling text from her son, which simply said, “I’m sorry.” In a public statement shortly thereafter, she asserted that her son “is not a monster.”
Colt’s father, Colin Gray, has also been charged in connection with the school shootings, facing allegations that include involuntary manslaughter, two counts of second-degree murder, and eight counts of cruelty to children, as he reportedly provided his son access to the rifle used in the tragic event.
As of now, calls made to Marcee Gray seeking comment were not returned, and it remains unclear whether she has legal representation.
