Hyundai and Kia Issue Recall for 208,000 EVs Due to Potential Power Loss Issue

Hyundai and Kia are initiating a recall of more than 208,000 electric vehicles due to a significant issue that can result in a loss of drive power, which may elevate the risk of accidents. This recall is particularly important for safety on the road.

The recall includes over 145,000 Hyundai and Genesis models. Affected vehicles encompass the 2022 to 2024 Ioniq 5, the 2023 to 2025 Ioniq 6, as well as the GV60, GV70, and the 2023 and 2024 G80.

In addition, nearly 63,000 Kia EV6 vehicles from the 2022 to 2024 model years are also part of the recall, highlighting the widespread nature of this issue.

The root of the problem lies in a transistor within the charging control unit that can become damaged, interrupting the charging process of the 12-volt battery. This malfunction can lead to the loss of power while driving, which could pose a serious safety hazard.

To address the situation, dealers will conduct inspections and, if necessary, replace the control unit and a fuse. Additionally, software updates will be performed to ensure the vehicles operate safely. Owners whose cars were recalled earlier this year for the same issue will need to revisit their dealers for further repairs.

Letters notifying owners about the recall will be sent out in December and January, ensuring they are informed and can take appropriate action to keep their vehicles safe.
