Usher’s acceptance speech at the BET Awards Lifetime Achievement Award It was candid, sometimes profane and long, and few people actually heard it.
The 13-minute speech was largely censored by the network, leaving viewers at home curious to find out what Usher A BET spokesperson told The Associated Press that “due to an audio malfunction during the live broadcast, portions of his speech were inadvertently muted. We extend our sincerest apologies to USHER as we could not be more grateful for his participation.”
A full version of the speech is now available at BET YouTube Channel and will be included in a rebroadcast on Monday, with some profanity removed. Much of his speech focused on the idea of fatherhood, forgiveness and his three-decade career. It appears the heavy censorship began shortly after Usher said “I’m sorry, I’m going to curse and let you know how I really feel” at the beginning of his acceptance.
He said that he entered Music mogul LA Reid In an unaired portion of the speech, he said: “That day I gave a new name to that word. I spoke out loud about my goals.”
He R&B Superstar The eight-time Grammy Award winner recently wrapped up a two-year residency in Las Vegas, “Usher: My Way” at Park MGM. In February, he released his first solo album in eight years and is scheduled to embark on a 24-city U.S. tour titled “Past Present Future” in August.
Usher 2024 Super Bowl halftime performance received praise and featured guest appearances by Alicia Keys, HER, Jermaine Dupri, Lil Jon and Ludacris. His album “Confessions” has sold more than 10 million units in the U.S., placing it among the best-selling music projects of all time. He released No. 1 hits such as “Yeah!” featuring Ludacris and Lil Jon, “Burn” and “Confessions Part II.”
A rebroadcast of the 2024 BET Awards will air on BET tonight at 8 p.m. ET.
