Broncos Wideout Josh Reynolds in Recovery Following Two Gunshot Injuries Linked to Strip Club Incident

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — Following a visit to a strip club, Denver Broncos wide receiver Josh Reynolds is recuperating from two gunshot wounds after an altercation last week.

The Broncos released a statement to The Associated Press confirming that Reynolds was shot on Friday in Denver, sustaining minor injuries for which he received medical treatment. “Out of respect for the legal process, we will defer further comment on this matter to the authorities,” the team added.

Law enforcement in Denver reported that two suspects, 35-year-old Luis Mendoza and 42-year-old Burr Charlesworth, have been arrested in relation to the shooting incident. This took place around 3 a.m. on October 18 along Interstate 25, south of downtown Denver.

Mendoza and Charlesworth are currently being held on charges of attempted first-degree murder and first-degree assault. Denver police indicated that they are still investigating and working to identify any additional suspects, leading to the sealing of arrest reports to maintain the investigation’s integrity.

According to NBC affiliate KUSA-TV, which first broke the news of the shooting, Reynolds was shot twice—once in his left arm and once in the back of his head—as he and another man were followed after leaving Shotgun Willies, a local strip club.

Reynolds is currently on injured reserve due to a broken finger, which meant he did not travel with the Broncos for their game in New Orleans on October 17. Notably, the shooting occurred a short time after the Broncos’ victory over the Saints on that same day.

This week, Reynolds has been seen working out on a separate field during Broncos practices. Players on injured reserve are not permitted to comment to the media.

This season marks Reynolds’ ninth in the NFL and his first with the Broncos after he signed a two-year, $9 million contract last offseason. He has participated in five games, recording one start, with 12 receptions for 183 yards and one touchdown.

Prior to joining the Broncos, Reynolds played three seasons with the Detroit Lions and has also suited up for the Tennessee Titans and the Los Angeles Rams, who selected him in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL draft out of Texas A&M.
