ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — On Wednesday, the Washington Commanders announced that they have suspended an employee while they conduct an internal review. This action follows the release of an undercover video on social media that showed the employee making disrespectful remarks about players and fans.
Rael Enteen, the team’s vice president of content, was recorded in the video released by O’Keefe Media Group, making offensive comments. He described some players as “dumb” and “homophobic,” and referred to fans as “high school-educated alcoholics” and “mouth breathers.”
A representative from the Commanders stated, “The language used in the video is not in line with the values of our organization.” They also mentioned that no further comments would be provided at this time.
James O’Keefe, the founder of O’Keefe Media Group, told The Associated Press via phone that the footage was captured on two separate occasions in June in Washington, D.C. He explained that Enteen and the woman who filmed the interactions had connected through a dating app.
In the video, Enteen also criticized NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. He labeled Goodell as “a $50 million puppet” and dismissed the league’s initiatives for social justice as merely for show.
Furthermore, Enteen alleged that Jones “hates gay people and Black people.”
A request for comment sent to a spokesperson for the NFL had not received a response at the time of publication. The Cowboys also did not reply when asked for their take on the situation.
