NEW YORK (AP) — Halloween is filled with various traditions, from trick-or-treating to pumpkin carving, but one standout annual highlight is the extravagant costume of Heidi Klum.
The supermodel and television personality is known for her jaw-dropping costumes that never fail to surprise. In 2022, she showed up at her Halloween event hanging from a fishing line, dressed in a unique slithering worm costume. “I wanted to be something completely random,” Klum shared, as she lay on the floor to enhance the worm-like illusion. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone dress as a rain worm before.”
In another memorable year, she showcased a stunning peacock costume, featuring the help of several Cirque du Soleil performers who appeared as the tail feathers. “It takes a lot of planning, you know,” she stated, speaking through her peacock beak, with her husband Tom Kaulitz dressed as an egg beside her. “First, you need a good idea.”
Klum is not new to outrageous costumes. For her 2008 Halloween party, she transformed into Kali, the Hindu goddess of death and destruction, complete with multiple arms, suspended heads, and an intricate coat of blue body paint. She has also dazzled and shocked her guests with looks like a giant Transformer, a clone surrounded by versions of herself, and a chaotic alien experiment.
Her creativity doesn’t stop there. Over the years, Klum has embraced a wide range of characters, including a terrifying butterfly, an ape, a crow, and beloved cartoon figures like Jessica Rabbit and Fiona from “Shrek.”
Looking ahead, Klum told The Associated Press that she starts planning her Halloween look right after the festivities wrap up. “After tonight I’ll be figuring out what I’ll do next year. It has to be something completely different each time,” she expressed.
If you’re still on the fence about your Halloween costume this year, Klum has a simple tip: ditch the store-bought masks. “I personally don’t enjoy when people hide behind those full masks. I love when creativity shines through, especially with makeup,” she advised in a 2007 interview. “Going for a scary look with makeup is always my favorite.”
