LONDON (AP) — After announcing that she had finished chemotherapy, Kate, the Princess of Wales, made her first public appearance on Sunday. She expressed her intention to gradually resume some of her public responsibilities.
On the same day, Kate and her husband, Prince William, joined King Charles III and Queen Camilla at church near their royal Balmoral estate in Scotland, marking a significant return to public life.
At 42 years old, Kate revealed on September 9 that she had completed her treatment, six months following her initial disclosure of having an undisclosed type of cancer. This news came only six weeks after Buckingham Palace shared that the king was undergoing treatment for cancer.
In a video update about her health, Kate acknowledged that the journey to full recovery would take time and that she would be taking each day as it comes. She mentioned her plan to participate in limited engagements throughout the end of the year to ease herself back into public life.
Though she largely withdrew from public duties during her treatment, Kate made a couple of notable appearances earlier this year. She attended the king’s birthday parade, known as Trooping the Colour, in June, and she received a warm standing ovation at the men’s final at Wimbledon in July.
