Mass Recall Issued for Nearly 138,000 Beds Due to Safety Concerns Over Breakage

NEW YORK (AP) — A recall has been issued for nearly 138,000 Lucid-branded platform beds sold at major retailers, including Amazon and Walmart, across the U.S. and Canada. The recall is due to the risk of the beds collapsing, which could lead to falls and injuries.

The Utah-based company CVB Inc. has announced that these platform beds, characterized by their upholstered square tufted headboards, can sag, break, or collapse during use, as indicated by notices from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada.

Reports show that there have been 245 incidents of bed failures in the U.S., leading to 18 injuries, including contusions and bruises. In Canada, 11 similar reports have been noted, although no injuries have been reported there.

According to Lucid, the recall affects a discontinued model of platform beds manufactured between 2019 and 2021. Although production stopped a few years ago, these beds remained available for sale at major retailers until April 2024. Consumers may have purchased them not only from Amazon and Walmart but also from retailers like Bed Bath & Beyond, eBay, Home Depot, Macy’s, Target.com, Wayfair, and more.

The recalled beds, made in Malaysia, are available in various sizes: twin, full, queen, king, and California king. To identify whether a bed is part of the recall, customers can check the white law label located on the back of the headboard. This label includes the following text: “Made For: CVB INC, 1525 W 2960 S, LOGAN, UT 84321.”

Customers who have purchased these recalled beds are advised to stop using them immediately. To obtain a free replacement frame, they should reach out to Lucid. As part of the process, individuals will need to mark the word “recalled” on the bed’s support rails using a permanent marker and submit photos to Lucid. More information on how to request a replacement can be found on Lucid’s recall page.

Approximately 137,000 of these platform beds were sold in the U.S., while 890 were sold in Canada, according to the CPSC.
