Rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine Reaches Agreement to Conclude Incarceration

NEW YORK (AP) — Rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine, whose real name is Daniel Hernandez, has negotiated an agreement to conclude his ongoing jail time. According to prosecutors on Wednesday, he will spend one month in jail due to a violation of his release conditions following a felony conviction.

The arrangement with federal prosecutors was outlined in a letter partially approved by a federal judge in Manhattan. Under the terms, Tekashi 6ix9ine will serve one month in jail, which will be followed by a month of home incarceration, a month of home detention, and a month of curfew. Additionally, he will be monitored electronically.

Judge Paul A. Engelmayer stated he will formally sentence the 28-year-old performer at a hearing set for Nov. 12, at which point he is expected to acknowledge his violations. The judge emphasized that both sides must provide rationales for why a one-month jail term followed by additional home restrictions is appropriate considering the rapper’s repeated breaches of probation terms.

Moreover, the deal stipulates that Tekashi 6ix9ine will be under the supervision of the court’s Probation Department for an additional year. He had come close to completing his court supervision but was arrested on Oct. 29 after his probation officer reported that he had violated travel rules and tested positive for drugs.

In 2019, Engelmayer sentenced him to two years in prison after the rapper pleaded guilty to charges of involvement in a gang known as the Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods, which included directing acts of violence. Following a health-related plea during the coronavirus pandemic situation, he was granted an early release from prison in April 2020 due to concerns that his health issues put him at higher risk for the virus.

During a recent hearing, Judge Engelmayer expressed disappointment with Tekashi 6ix9ine’s apparent disregard for the rules, especially considering he had facilitated his compassionate release previously. In response, the rapper expressed remorse, insisting to the judge, “I am not a bad person.”
