Stanley is recalling approximately 2.6 million of its stainless steel travel mugs with switchback and trigger action lids, sold in the U.S., due to a potential burn hazard. This issue arises from the lid threads, which can shrink when exposed to heat and pressure, potentially leading to the lid detaching while in use.
As a result of this defect, Stanley has received 91 reports worldwide, including 16 from within the U.S. These incidents have led to 38 burn injuries globally, with two injuries reported in the U.S. alone, necessitating medical attention for 11 individuals worldwide.
The affected recall includes double-walled mugs available in various colors such as white, black, and green. They come in 12 oz., 16 oz., and 20 oz. sizes, featuring a polypropylene lid. The Stanley logo is visible on both the front and bottom of the mugs.
These mugs were sold from June 2016 through December 2024 at retailers such as Amazon, Walmart, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Target, and various other stores, with prices ranging from $20 to $50 depending on the model.
Consumers who own the recalled travel mugs are strongly advised to stop using them immediately. Stanley is offering a free replacement lid, which includes shipping.
