Traffic Violations Against Dolphins’ Tyreek Hill Thrown Out Due to Officer Absence at Hearing

MIAMI (AP) — The traffic citations for careless driving and failure to wear a seat belt issued to Miami Dolphins’ star wide receiver Tyreek Hill have been dismissed. This outcome occurred after the police officers who issued the tickets did not appear at the scheduled court hearing.

The citations arose from an incident on September 8, just before the Dolphins’ season opener, when Hill was pulled over outside Hard Rock Stadium for allegedly speeding. Body camera footage from the incident showed Hill speeding past two motorcycle officers who were monitoring traffic. After being stopped, an officer approached his McLaren sports car, and a tense exchange ensued, escalating quickly. Hill expressed his frustration, telling the officer, “Don’t knock on my window like that,” before rolling his window back up.

The encounter escalated to the point where officers forcibly removed Hill from his vehicle, pushing him to the ground, and handcuffing him, although he did not physically resist them. At one point, Hill voiced concerns about a knee injury when the officers attempted to position him on the curb.

After approximately 30 minutes, Hill was issued his citations and permitted to enter the stadium. In the wake of the incident, one of the officers involved has been placed on administrative duty, and an internal affairs investigation has been opened, although no findings have been made public yet.

On a social media platform known as X, Hill shared his thoughts on the situation by asking, “Where all the internet cops now,” emphasizing his feelings about the incident and the aftermath of the citations being dismissed.

The Miami-Dade Police stated that the officers’ absence from the hearing was merely “an oversight” and that they would address the matter internally. They also clarified that the dismissal of the citation does not imply that the accusations lacked merit, maintaining that there were legitimate grounds for the tickets in the first place.
