A man admits guilt in a shooting incident near former US Rep. Zeldin’s home in New York.

RIVERHEAD, N.Y. (AP) — A 20-year-old member of a gang has admitted guilt in connection with a drive-by shooting that injured two members of a rival gang outside the home of then-U.S. Representative Lee Zeldin in New York, according to officials.

Noah Green entered a guilty plea on Thursday to charges of attempted murder, illegal possession of a weapon, and conspiracy. These charges stemmed from an incident in 2022 when he fired at three men outside Zeldin’s home in Shirley, located on Long Island. Fortunately, both victims survived the attack.

At the time of the shooting, Zeldin, a Republican candidate running for governor of New York, was not at home, but his two teenage daughters were present.

“The incidents that happened on October 9, 2022, were deeply unsettling for my family and struck very close to home,” Zeldin stated.

He expressed his gratitude to Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney and the numerous law enforcement officials who acted quickly to ensure his daughters’ safety, assist the shooting victims, and take necessary legal steps to hold Green responsible for his actions.

Green was arrested on October 31, 2022, with the firearm believed to have been used in the shooting. Following an investigation into the No Fake Love gang, he was later indicted alongside 17 other suspects for various crimes, including shootings and carjackings.

According to Newsday, during the court proceedings on Thursday, Judge Anthony Senft asked Green, “Are you pleading guilty because you are truly guilty?” to which he responded, “Yes.”

Michael Alber, Green’s lawyer, stated that his client is eager to move on from this situation, expressing that Green never intended to be involved in the events that occurred.

Green is anticipated to receive a sentence of 12 years in prison, followed by five years of supervised release, during a hearing scheduled for October 15.
