This coming year, NBC will broadcast a new action-sports league created by Olympic snowboarding legend Shaun White.
Earlier this year, White unveiled plans for The Snow League, a series of four events featuring thrilling competitions in halfpipe snowboarding and freeskiing. The inaugural event is scheduled to take place on March 7-8 in the beautiful resort town of Aspen, Colorado, with additional events yet to be announced.
The Snow League aims to attract both male and female athletes, with slots available for 20 men and 16 women in each contest and a total prize pool exceeding $1.5 million for the first season. A lineup of committed athletes is anticipated to be released later this year, adding to the excitement surrounding the league.
White expressed his vision for the league, emphasizing its significance as a premier destination for top action-sports athletes who often split their time among multiple circuits like the Dew Tour, Grand Prix, and X Games. He sees The Snow League as a prestigious platform, stating, “Winning a medal at the Olympics is incredible, but this is akin to clinching victory at Wimbledon or the NBA finals. It carries a unique prestige of its own.”
Notably, the league’s debut in Aspen will occur just 11 months prior to the Winter Olympics in Italy, which will also be televised by NBC.
