In response to recent on-field conflicts during college football games, Republican state Rep. Josh Williams from Ohio has proposed a controversial new bill that would classify flag planting in sports as a felony in the state.
This initiative follows a notable incident on November 30 during the heated rivalry game between Michigan and Ohio State, where the Wolverines emerged victorious with a score of 13-10. After the game, tensions flared when Michigan players attempted to plant their flag at midfield, leading to a brawl that required police intervention and the use of pepper spray.
Williams is naming his legislative proposal the “O.H.I.O Sportsmanship Act,” emphasizing the need for order and respect on the football field. He stated, “Behavior that incites violent brawls and puts our law enforcement officers in danger has no place on the football field.”
