LOS ANGELES (AP) — After a lengthy six-year process, actors Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan have finalized their divorce through a settlement, effectively bypassing an impending trial. This development comes years after Dewan initially filed for divorce and both have since moved on to new long-term relationships.
The settlement terms were documented in a court filing submitted on Wednesday, allowing Tatum and Dewan to sidestep the scheduled trial, which was set to begin in December. The trial could have included sensitive information about asset division and the custody of their 13-year-old daughter, Everly.
While the details surrounding the settlement remain under wraps, they are pending approval from a judge. Both actors have significantly progressed in their personal lives since their separation. Tatum is currently with actor and director Zoë Kravitz, while Dewan has been in a relationship with actor Steve Kazee, with whom she shares two children.
The pair originally met in 2006 while co-starring in the popular dance film “Step Up” and subsequently embarked on a romance that led to their marriage in July 2009. Their separation was announced via social media in April 2018, with the couple expressing their decision to “lovingly separate” while maintaining their friendship.
Though Dewan filed for divorce six months later, their divorce was officially declared by a judge in November 2019, yet disputes over finances and custody continued to escalate over the years as the trial approached. Dewan had proposed two separate trials—one for custody and another for financial matters, which Tatum contested.
In the years following their split, Tatum’s career saw him take on various roles, including appearances in the “Magic Mike” series and “21 Jump Street.” Recently, he made a guest appearance in “Deadpool & Wolverine” and starred in “Blink Twice,” a project directed by Kravitz. However, he indicated in a 2022 interview that his focus shifted heavily towards parenting during the years after their separation. “Time just kind of got away,” Tatum remarked. “Really, being a dad sort of just swept me away for almost four years. I kind of got lost in doing that.”
Meanwhile, Dewan has continued to advance her career, taking roles in various dance films and establishing herself as a regular on the ABC series “The Rookie.”
