INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — On Saturday, Hollywood actor Keanu Reeves made his auto racing debut at the legendary Indianapolis Motor Speedway, known for its rich motorsport history.
During the exciting 45-minute race, Reeves faced a challenging moment when he spun out at the exit of Turn 9, though fortunately, he managed to avoid any collisions and instead landed in the grass. This incident occurred roughly midway through the race. After regaining his composure, he re-entered the track, indicating that he was unharmed.
Competing in the Toyota GR Cup, a Toyota spec-racing series that supports the Indy 8 Hour sports car event this weekend, Reeves secured the 31st position out of 35 cars in the starting lineup. Throughout the race, he climbed as high as 21st place and successfully steered clear of a first-lap crash in Turn 14, ultimately finishing in 25th place.
At the age of 60, Reeves is racing in the No. 92 BRZRKR car, which promotes his graphic novel titled “The Book of Elsewhere.” He is alongside teammate Cody Jones from the popular group “Dude Perfect.
Before this event, Reeves had some racing experience from his victory in the celebrity race at the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach in 2009. This background likely contributed to his ability to navigate the track despite his spinning out.
Looking ahead, Reeves is scheduled to participate in another race on Sunday and will also attend a 30th-anniversary screening of his iconic film “Speed” on Tuesday in Los Angeles, where he will join co-star Sandra Bullock.
