There’s a reason why Mariah Carey is hailed as the Queen of Christmas — it’s not just her seasonal chart-topping hit, “All I Want for Christmas Is You”. This iconic song has become a celebration in its own right, with Carey frequently hosting Christmas concerts to honor her impressive career and holiday legacy.
Recently, she kicked off the “Christmas Time” tour, which began on November 6 in Highland, California. This exciting variety show traveled to several major North American cities, culminating in an unforgettable performance at Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Tuesday night. The final concert had fans sporting festive Santa hats and dazzling red sequin dresses as they awaited her arrival.
As the show unfolded, Carey made a dramatic entrance seated on a throne shaped like a snowflake, leading the enthusiastic crowd in timeless classics like “Silent Night” and “O Holy Night.” A special moment occurred when her twins, Roc and Roe, joined her on stage, creating a heartwarming family atmosphere.
In a surprise twist, during a nostalgic medley of her greatest hits — including “Emotions,” “Hero,” “Fantasy,” and “We Belong Together” — the elusive Rihanna was spotted in the audience. In a playful moment, Carey signed Rihanna’s chest as they launched into a spirited arena-wide sing-along of “Always Be My Baby.” Rihanna exited the scene as swiftly as she appeared, but the excitement continued unabated, climaxing with Carey’s iconic performance of “All I Want for Christmas Is You.”
This year marked the 30th anniversary of Carey’s first Christmas album, “Merry Christmas,” released in 1994. Reflecting on her early apprehensions about creating a holiday album, Carey shared with The Associated Press that her youthful hesitation transformed into festive creativity. “I was very young and was just starting out and I felt like people do Christmas albums later in their lives,” she reminisced. “But now people have started to do them whenever, like right at the top of their career. And I decorated the studio and just had the best time.”
