LONDON (AP) — Brian May, the lead guitarist of the iconic British rock band Queen, shared on Wednesday that he experienced a “minor stroke” last week, which temporarily affected his ability to control his arm.
The 77-year-old musician stated in a video posted on his website that he is feeling “OK” but is currently “grounded.” He has been advised against driving, flying, or engaging in any activities that could significantly increase his heart rate.
“I want to start with some good news: I can still play the guitar following the recent events,” he mentioned. “This was uncertain because, as I said, I had a little health scare about a week ago. They referred to it as a minor stroke, and suddenly, I lost control over my arm without any warning.”
Brian described the experience as “a little scary,” but he was grateful for the “fantastic care” he received from the hospital in Surrey, located southwest of London.
AP correspondent Margie Szaroleta gives a report on Queen guitarist Brian May suffering a minor stroke.
“I really don’t want any sympathy,” he expressed. “Please avoid sending that my way, as it just fills up my inbox, and I really dislike that!”
Since the passing of their legendary frontman Freddie Mercury in 1991, Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor have continued to perform together as Queen.
